Frequently asked questions

Until when can projects be submitted under the call for medical genetics and rare disease centres?

Applications are submitted in MySMIS2021 until 30 October 2026, 14:30. The deadline was extended by Corrigendum No 2, published on 27 August 2026. The original deadline, 30 September 2026, is no longer valid.

Can a county council apply instead of the hospital?

Yes. UATs that coordinate, supervise or administer the healthcare unit are eligible applicants, usually county councils and municipal city halls. However, the healthcare unit that hosts the centre must be included as a partner.

What is the value of a project?

Under call PS/652, for less developed regions, a project is worth between 200,001 euro and 1,949,712.55 euro, including VAT. The budget of this call is 11,698,275.29 euro, out of the total of 21,725,121.07 euro for the two calls. For PS/653, with national coverage, the values are set in the call's specific guide.

Can hospitals that already have funding from the Health Programme apply?

For rare disease expertise centres, healthcare units that are or have been beneficiaries of the Health Programme under Priority 7 or Priority 1, component D, cannot apply. The condition was introduced by Corrigendum No 1 of 24 July 2026 to avoid double funding.

Does it fund construction as well, or only equipment?

It funds both: the expansion, modernisation, rehabilitation, construction and equipping of the centres. The 2024 call for regional genetics centres funded only equipment. The 2026 call window also allows construction works and explicitly targets rare disease expertise centres as well.

Are projects funded in the order they are submitted?

No. The calls are competitive, with a deadline. Projects are ranked by the score they obtain, not by the order in which they were submitted.

How long does it take to prepare the application?

It depends on the complexity of the project and the documents you already have. The first step is the eligibility analysis, which tells you what needs to be prepared.

What happens if I do not qualify?

We tell you before any contract is signed, and if another suitable programme exists, we point you to it.
