Frequently asked questions
Until when can applications be submitted under the SME Eco-Tech programme?
Applications are submitted online, on the sme-ecotech.gov.ro platform, until 30 December 2026, 20:00. Registrations opened on 26 May 2026, at 10:00. The deadline was extended successively: first to 24 July, then to 24 September and finally to 30 December 2026. Funds are awarded in order of submission, so submissions may close earlier if the budget runs out.
How much can a company receive through SME Eco-Tech?
A company receives a non-refundable grant of at most 40% of the investment value, that is, a maximum of 267,240 lei. At least 60% of the investment is covered by a loan from a partner bank. The project must be worth at least 668,100 lei. At the minimum value, the grant is 267,240 lei and the loan 400,860 lei.
Can micro-enterprises apply to SME Eco-Tech?
Yes. Since July 2026, micro-enterprises and companies in trade and services can apply, in addition to those in production. MEDAT Order no. 1241/07.08.2026 also removed the 2 million lei turnover threshold at 31 December 2024, previously required of micro-enterprises. It remains mandatory for the company to have been established by 31 December 2021.
What conditions must the CAEN code meet?
Funding is requested for a single CAEN Rev. 3 code. It must have been the company's main code since at least 1 January 2022 and be authorised on the date of registration in the programme. Companies that changed their main activity after 1 January 2022 are not eligible.
Which banks can provide the mandatory loan?
The loan of at least 60% is taken out with one of the five partner banks selected by MEDAT: Banca Transilvania, BRD – Groupe Société Générale, CEC Bank, ProCredit Bank and UniCredit Bank. The funding agreement with the ministry is signed only after the bank approves the loan.
Can energy storage batteries be funded on their own?
No. According to MEDAT, storage batteries on their own are not eligible, because they do not produce renewable energy. They can be funded only together with a complete energy generation system, for example a photovoltaic or wind installation.
How long does it take to prepare the application?
It depends on the complexity of the project and the documents you already have. The first step is the eligibility analysis, which tells you what needs to be prepared.
What happens if I do not qualify?
We tell you before any contract is signed, and if another suitable programme exists, we point you to it.
