Digitalisation grants in the Centre Region: an important opportunity for SMEs
On 15 May 2026 an essential webinar is scheduled for entrepreneurs in the counties of Brașov, Sibiu, Alba, Covasna, Harghita and Mureș who want to access EU funds for business digitalisation. The Regional Development Agency (ADR) Centru has opened a public consultation on a draft guide for a new call offering grants of between 15,000 and 200,000 euro, an amount intended to support the digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This funding comes from the Regional Operational Programme and forms part of the strategic drive to boost the competitiveness of the business environment through innovative technologies.
Who qualifies for funding and which sectors are targeted
The grants are aimed at SMEs legally established in Romania with their registered office in one of the Centre Region counties listed above. Potential beneficiaries must have a minimum number of employees and a specific turnover, in line with the exact criteria that will be published in the applicant's guide. Businesses in almost all economic sectors are covered, but the emphasis is on those that can benefit most from digitalisation: retail, manufacturing, services, tourism and agriculture.
Eligible investments include the purchase of software, IT equipment and communication technologies, the implementation of integrated digital solutions for business management (ERP, CRM), connection to online platforms, the development of e-commerce, the digitalisation of internal processes and other innovations that modernise the way you work. The aim is to increase productivity, reduce costs and scale the business through digital tools.
Which documents and conditions must be met to apply
The application will require a complete file which, in addition to the standard documentation (registration certificate, financial statements, tax declarations), will include a clear digitalisation plan with measurable objectives, a description of the investment, feasibility studies (where applicable) and estimates of the impact on the business. The applicant must demonstrate the sustainability of the project, the administrative capacity to implement it, and compliance with European regulations on public procurement, the environment and state aid.
Companies must also meet the eligibility criteria on seniority and share capital, must not be insolvent and must have no outstanding tax debts. Transparency, rigorous budget planning and alignment of the project with the company's real needs are essential to the success of the funding application.
The impact of these grants on the local business environment
The Centre Region stands out for its dynamic economy and great development potential, but also for challenges relating to the modernisation of digital infrastructure and IT skills in small and medium-sized companies. The financial allocations offered through these grants arrive at the right moment to accelerate the digital transformation process. Digitalisation not only increases operational efficiency, but also provides access to foreign markets, making it easier to integrate into broader value chains.
At the same time, EU funds contribute to a more resilient economy, adapted to the new global economic realities, in which digital tools are becoming indispensable for survival and growth. SMEs that access these grants can be better prepared to respond to consumer demand, optimise costs and increase their visibility through innovative digital solutions.
What companies should prepare and what to watch out for
Interested entrepreneurs should treat this opportunity with the utmost seriousness and start preparing in good time. For a solid funding application, we recommend carrying out an internal assessment of your current level of digitalisation, clearly identifying the vulnerable areas or those that can be modernised, and consulting experts who can support you with project design and documentation.
- Check all the technical and administrative criteria in the applicant's guide.
- Prepare a well-founded and sustainable digital business plan.
- Make sure you plan eligible costs that are economically justified.
- Prepare the necessary documents, including recent financial statements and legal proofs.
- Consult EU funding experts to avoid common mistakes and generic presentations, which can compromise your chances of funding.
Attending the webinar on 15 May 2026 is an excellent opportunity to get information directly from the ADR Centru specialists. I recommend that all entrepreneurs make the most of this opportunity to give their businesses a new impetus, using the digital tools that can make the difference in economic competition over the coming years.
