EU Funds 2026: Over €100,000 for North-East Micro-Enterprises in Diverse Sectors

New funding opportunities for micro-enterprises in the North-East region

In 2026, micro-enterprises in the six counties of the North-East region (Iași, Bacău, Neamț, Suceava, Botoșani and Vaslui) will be able to access non-refundable funding of between 100,000 and 300,000 euro for investment projects in a range of fields, including bakeries, IT, fitness studios, hair salons, travel agencies, taxi transport, after-school clubs and private nurseries. These grants, set out in an official guide that is still in public consultation, aim to relaunch the economy and create jobs in the region by supporting local entrepreneurial activity and adapting it to current market requirements.

Who the eligible beneficiaries are and which types of business can access the funds

The funding is intended for micro-enterprises, that is, companies with no more than 9 employees and a turnover or balance sheet total not exceeding 2 million euro. They must have their registered office and carry out their activities in one of the six counties mentioned. The fields targeted have been carefully chosen on the basis of their potential for economic growth and their ability to respond to current social and consumer needs. Potential applicants may therefore come from the food sector (e.g. bakeries), community services (after-school clubs, private nurseries), health and sport services (fitness studios), beauty services (hair salons), tourism and transport (travel agencies, taxis) or IT, where innovation and digitalisation play an increasingly important role in competitiveness.

This broad range diversifies the local economy and reduces the risk of a one-sided sectoral impact, encouraging companies to strengthen and expand their businesses in fields with real potential for growth and hiring.

Eligibility conditions and key funding criteria

To access the funds, companies must prepare a series of mandatory documents and meet clear criteria. These include:

  • Confirmation of micro-enterprise status based on the relevant CAEN code and the size of the company;
  • Proof of the registered office and of economic activities in the counties concerned;
  • Preparation of a business plan or project demonstrating the viability of the investment, its economic sustainability and its social impact;
  • Presentation of an estimated budget with eligible and ineligible costs clearly separated;
  • Compliance with the conditions on not starting works or purchases before the funding application is submitted;
  • Compliance with the rules on the minimum own contribution and with public procurement rules for larger expenses.

Applicants must pay close attention to project submission deadlines and to any additional consultant or external audit requirements, which an EU funding specialist can clarify and guide you through. Professional support considerably increases the chances of the application being approved.

What impact these grants could have on the local economy

The North-East region, with significant agricultural potential, but also with university cities and developing tourist areas, needs financial boosts of this kind to balance its economy and create new jobs. Micro-enterprises are the backbone of the Romanian economy, and easy access to funds of this scale can stimulate innovation, equipment modernisation, and new services and experiences for consumers. Even more importantly, the funds will encourage companies to increase their production capacity and the quality of their services, which will strengthen their market position locally as well as regionally and nationally.

Furthermore, funding fields such as after-school clubs and private nurseries contributes to a better work-life balance for employees, which can increase productivity and make the area more attractive to qualified staff. Investments in IT, sport and tourism support the global trends of digitalisation and responsible consumption, increasingly favoured by young, urban consumers.

The practical steps micro-enterprises must follow to access the funds

Interested companies should begin with an internal assessment of their profile and investment needs. It is essential to identify clearly which equipment, technologies or services they want to develop, and to prepare the related documentation.

It is advisable to consult an EU funding consultant to understand the requirements of the official guide, what "eligible costs" versus "ineligible costs" means, and how to argue convincingly for the project's potential. Consultants can also help with the technical and financial documentation and the administrative side, so that the application is submitted correctly.

Companies must keep a close eye on deadlines and, in parallel, prepare local partnerships or contracts that can support the practical implementation of the project (e.g. collaborations with suppliers or local authorities). Last but not least, monitoring the project's implementation afterwards is very important, because EU funds involve reporting and strict justification requirements.

Through thorough preparation, transparency and responsibility, micro-enterprises in the North-East can turn this opportunity into valuable investments, increasing both their competitiveness and their capacity to contribute sustainably to the development of the area.
